DiversityTaxonNames is an application component of the database framework Diversity Workbench. It might be installed as part of a DWB environment, but also be used as a stand-alone application, e. g., in a local installation. Each DWB module is devoted to a specific data domain.
DiversityTaxonNames is focused on the management of taxon names. Next to nomenclatural information on zoological, botanical, mycological, palaeontological, bacteriological taxon names like homotypic synonyms, basionyms, protologue and references according to the rules of the respective International Codes it is designed to document the accepted names (current names), heterotypic synonyms, name concepts and classifications. It is able to organize information on typification, on geography in the protologue and on common names. Type specimens might be linked from the module DiversityCollection. It is also used to store regional taxon checklists with information on red list status and other nature conservation parameters. The data managed in DiversityTaxonNames are directly connected to taxon names. Data of other realms like, e. g., specimens and observations, references, media data are handled in separate modules.
