'''Alternative B''' (green) is appropriate for scientists, research groups, joint research projects and curators affiliated to an institution with an own IT department and own network infrastructure. Alternative B provides several options for system and database administation (e. g. remote desktop solutions for MAC). DWB environment B is independent from other data centers and other DWB environments. Some web services and DWB terminologies and taxonomies are accessible via the internet connection.

'''Alternative C''' (yellow) is appropriate for institutions and major joint research projects affiliated to an institution. Its server-based installation is the result of a hosting agreement with a data center with DWB installations. The hosting is planned to be timely limited. The databases of alternative C are installed on a virtual machine. The solution has the same functionalities as Alternative B but uses the hardware, database and system administration of the hosting institution. The DWB environment of type C is dependent from the hosting data center and uses all services of the hosting institution. Some web services and DWB terminologies and taxonomies are accessible via the internet connection.

'''Alternative C''' (yellow) is appropriate for institutions and major joint research projects affiliated to an institution without an own adequate network infrastructure. The server-based installation is the result of a hosting agreement with a data center with DWB installations. The hosting is planned to be timely limited. The databases of alternative C are installed on a MS virtual machine. The solution has the same functionalities as '''Alternative B''' but uses the hardware, database and system administration of the hosting institution. '''Alternative D''' (red) is appropriate for single researchers or research groups with limited technical resources of their institution, but similar requirements as the researchers of '''Alternative B or C'''. The server-based DWB environment (either with own databases ot part-databases) is part of the enviroment of the hosting data center. It is the result of a hosting agreement where the hosting is planned to be permanent. Some web services and DWB terminologies and taxonomies are accessible via the internet connection.

Before you install a DWB environment please check the Technical documentation at a glance.

You might install 1, 2, 3 to 12 database components with .Net clients and the GIS editor.

DWB-Module

Please check which type of DWB environment und dataflow is appropriate for your requirements.

Their are four alternative solutions imaged in color below.

Datenfluss-DWB-Skalierung

Alternative A (blue) is appropriate for single researchers with limited requirements, working with desktop PC (MAC with Wine), notebook, Tablet PC. It is practical for a limited research project or to work offline in the field. It only provides limited support and services from outside (data replication with another DWB environment is possible). Some web services and DWB terminologies and taxonomies are accessible via the internet connection.

Alternative B (green) is appropriate for scientists, research groups, joint research projects and curators affiliated to an institution with an own IT department and own network infrastructure. Alternative B provides several options for system and database administation (e. g. remote desktop solutions for MAC). DWB environment B is independent from other data centers and other DWB environments. Some web services and DWB terminologies and taxonomies are accessible via the internet connection.

Alternative C (yellow) is appropriate for institutions and major joint research projects affiliated to an institution without an own adequate network infrastructure. The server-based installation is the result of a hosting agreement with a data center with DWB installations. The hosting is planned to be timely limited. The databases of alternative C are installed on a MS virtual machine. The solution has the same functionalities as Alternative B but uses the hardware, database and system administration of the hosting institution. The DWB environment of type C is dependent from the hosting data center and uses all services of the hosting institution. Some web services and DWB terminologies and taxonomies are accessible via the internet connection.

Alternative D (red) is appropriate for single researchers or research groups with limited technical resources of their institution, but similar requirements as the researchers of Alternative B or C. The server-based DWB environment (either with own databases ot part-databases) is part of the enviroment of the hosting data center. It is the result of a hosting agreement where the hosting is planned to be permanent. Some web services and DWB terminologies and taxonomies are accessible via the internet connection.

The possible dataflow between single DWB environments is not imaged.
