DiversityGazetteers (DWB-DG) is an application component of the database framework Diversity Workbench. It might be installed as part of a DWB environment, but also be used as a stand-alone application, e. g. in a local installation. Each DWB module is devoted to a specific data domain.
DiversityGazetteers is used to manage and visualize geographical dictionary entries with information about places (particular regions and locations). In conjunction with an automatically created background map, equipped with world coordinates, collections of Microsoft SQL Geometry Objects (points, lines and areas) are displayed in their geographical context. Users are gazetteer experts with administrator rights. They may import official place names, toponyms and GIS shapes from external open data sources (e. g., ArcView shape files) or edit toponyms/ places manually using the integrated Diversity GIS Editor. They may also organise the classification and naming of places.
For download of test versions check DiversityGazetteers clients for beta testing.

Database server
- Download the SQL Server (see General Download Notes)
Software for .Net Framework 3.5
Online manual
The manual is provided as pdf file (for current version check DWB user manuals) and compiled help file in CHM (= MS online help format). The compiled help file is available for separate download but is included in the zip archive of the client application as well.
Client application
Current version

Previous versions
These client applications are built for Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.
New features and fixes:
- Optional encryption of SQL server connection (activated by default).
- New GIS Editor version 2.2.10.0 included:
- The GIS Editor now supports loading of csv files with Gauss-Krüger coordinates.
- The sample switching on working area is now turned off when DWB clients operate in Viewer mode.
- A progress bar is shown when switching samples (takes long on certain PCs).
- GIS-Viewer had to be adapted due to changes in Google Maps API.
- Bugfix: Conversion error when reading longitude, latitude from TAB-separated textfiles has been fixed.
New features and fixes:
- Privacy Consent according to EU-DSGVO implemented.
- Database update: Create spatial index to fasten the search of geographies.
NOTE: This database update will last some minutes, increase timeout expiration time in the update form!
New features and fixes:
- GIS Editor update:
- Shapes and samples now can be switched off and on directly on the working area using the mouse buttons analog to the toggle buttons: left button affects selected object, right button affects all other objects. This is only possible in Shift mode to avoid confusion or interaction in other modes.
- The transparency of the switched off elements now can be adjusted using the opacity slider in the settings: opacity 0% means invisible, opacity 100% means fully visible.
- The frame for saving a part of the working area now also can be used to make a (pre)selection of the samples there. Activate the frame in the settings, adjust it to the area of interest and press the right mouse button to switch off all samples outside of the frame. This is useful if lots of samples are displayed and you just want to see a certain region of them. The frame is only visible in Shift mode.
- Selecting samples on the working area by mouse or frame is deactivated in GIS view mode of other DWB modules using the enbedded GIS Editor.
- There are 4 new point symbols which have been requested by users: Pyramid, Cone, Minus and Questionmark.
- The artificial blank reference area will no longer be removed automatically after loading non aligned maps. It has caused problems when loading additional non aligned maps.
New features and fixes:
- Database update script added to include the HierarchyList into the HierarchyCache.
- If no name related database parameters are shown for an entry, a hint will be displayed to update database hierarchy cache first.
- Prevent the German style input of coordinates with decimal comma instead of decimal point.
- Bug fix: Application had crashed in GIS Editor interface function "clear all samples" when sample list was empty.
