DiversitySamplingPlots is an application component of the database framework Diversity Workbench. It might be installed as part of a DWB environment, but also be used as a stand-alone application, e. g., in a local installation. Each DWB component is devoted to a specific data domain.

DiversitySamplingPlots is focussed on the management of sampling plots. It is a tool designed for biodiversity, geodiversity, ecological and geosciences research projects. In this context it is appropriate to design plots for organising the geographical position of geoobjects residing in other DWB databases. DSP is able to import sampling plots from other sources and formats (e. g., ArcView shape files) classifying them hierarchically and annotating them. The Diversity GIS Editor is integrated. Data of other realms like, e. g., taxonomy of georeferenced single objects and documentation of the collection/ observation event are handled in separate modules. For an overview of the available DWB components see the Diversity Workbench Main Page.

Software

Online manual

The manual is provided as pdf file (for current version check DWB user manuals) and compiled help file in CHM (= MS online help format). The compiled help file is available for separate download but is included in the zip archive of the client application as well.

Client application

Current version

The DiversitySamplingPlots application is built for Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 or higher. Please make sure you have the correct version of this software already installed on your computer! (Check under control panel -> Software for Microsoft .Net Framework).

Previous versions

These client applications are built for Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 or higher. Please make sure you have the correct version of this software already installed on your computer! (Check under control panel -> Software for Microsoft .Net Framework).

Features of the DiversitySamplingPlots application 3.0.11.0, December 6th, 2018

New features:

  • Optional encryption of SQL server connection (activated by default).
  • Bugfix: SQL function for copy sampling plot has been fixed.
  • New GIS Editor version 2.2.10.0 included:
    • The GIS Editor now supports loading of csv files with Gauss-Krüger coordinates.
    • The sample switching on working area is now turned off when DWB clients operate in Viewer mode.
    • A progress bar is shown when switching samples (takes long on certain PCs).
    • GIS-Viewer had to be adapted due to changes in Google Maps API.
    • Bugfix: Conversion error when reading longitude, latitude from TAB-separated textfiles has been fixed.
Features of the DiversitySamplingPlots application 3.0.10.0, July 30th, 2018

New features:

  • Resources Browse button implemented to create a web based global resource.
  • Resources Open button implemented to open listed resource files.
  • Timeout menu item implemented to set the timeout for database queries.
  • Hierarchy search in DWB Property module (ScientificTerms) implemented.
Features of the DiversitySamplingPlots application 3.0.9.1, April 30th, 2018

New features:

  • Privacy Consent according to EU-DSGVO implemented.
Features of the DiversitySamplingPlots application 3.0.9.0, March 23rd, 2018

New features:

  • If properties are missing in plots, show inherited properties from upper hierarchy.
  • Additional Property Query targeting the PropertyHierarchyCache added to show all plots which have requested property in upper hierarchy.
  • Database update script: New function to show inherited properties from upper hierarchy.
  • New GIS Editor version 2.2.9.0 included:
    • Shapes and samples now can be switched off and on directly on the working area using the mouse buttons analog to the toggle buttons: left button affects selected object, right button affects all other objects. This is only possible in Shift mode to avoid confusion or interaction in other modes.
    • The transparency of the switched off elements now can be adjusted using the opacity slider in the settings: opacity 0% means invisible, opacity 100% means fully visible.
    • The frame for saving a part of the working area now also can be used to make a (pre)selection of the samples there. Activate the frame in the settings, adjust it to the area of interest and press the right mouse button to switch off all samples outside of the frame. This is useful if lots of samples are displayed and you just want to see a certain region of them. The frame is only visible in Shift mode.
    • Selecting samples on the working area by mouse or frame is deactivated in GIS view mode of other DWB modules using the enbedded GIS Editor.
    • There are 4 new point symbols which have been requested by users: Pyramid, Cone, Minus and Questionmark.
    • The artificial blank reference area will no longer be removed automatically after loading non aligned maps. It has caused problems when loading additional non aligned maps.

  • Database updates added.
  • Help file extended.

These bugs have been fixed:

  • When a plot had been deleted, the next Plot was marked in the query list, but the data area had vanished.
  • When a plot had been deleted, the next Plot was marked in the query list, but could not be deleted, too (had to be re-selected).
  • When a new plot had been created, the last marked plot had been displayed again on the map: Re-display now is skipped if PlotID has not changed.
  • When a new plot had been created, the new plot was marked showing an empty map area: Now GIS-Editor is switched to map mode for new plot.
  • Hierarchy search: When having selected a search branch from hierarchy tree, the branch was shown in the combobox, but vanished after search, although still active.
