DiversityDescriptions is part of the database framework Diversity Workbench. Each DWB module is devoted to a specific data domain.
The domain of DiversityDescriptions covers the knowledge about organism properties. Properties are not limited to morphology, but include physiological, ecological, behavioral, and even some molecular data, as long as the data can be generalized to one of the presently supported data types (quantitative values and statistical measures, categorical data, and free-form text as a fall-back option).
DiversityDescriptions can be used to describe individuals (e.g. specimens) as well as taxa (e.g. species).
The first implementations of DiversityDescriptions pre-date the Diversity Workbench concept. The versions are named DeltaAccess and are still actively used. The information about the version 1.9 can still be found outside the wiki on a static page under: http://www.diversityworkbench.net/OldModels/Descriptions/index.html. The version 2.0 of DiversityDescriptions (= DeltaAccess 2.0) has not left beta stage. It can be safely used with Access XP or 2003, and to a large extent with Access 2007. However, a bug exists in Access 2007 in combination with the item editor, and my resources are insufficient to fix this bug. The "beta 12" version has been used for several months by at least two testers and is herewith made publicly available: File:DiversityDescriptions 20b12.mdb.zip. Diversity Descriptions 2.0 supports importing DELTA datasets and exporting them to SDD 1.1. However, it has no SDD import yet. See also "How to use DiversityDescriptions on Japanese Computers".
The first official release of DiversityDescriptions 3.0 is scheduled for mid of 2013.
